About us
We’re a small environmental consultancy established by Dr. Ian Swane in early 2008, primarily servicing the mining sector. Ian has over 25 years experience in the sector and works closely with mining companies and mining and environmental specialists.
We are located in Brisbane (Queensland, Australia) and we provide expertise in environmental earth sciences. Our core competencies are environmental geology and geochemistry, hydrogeochemistry and project management of environmental projects.
We have significant experience and a depth of knowledge working on a wide range of coal and metalliferous mining operations and projects throughout Australia and internationally.
Our core business
We specialise in providing environmental geochemical services and advice to the mining sector. Our core business comprises:
- Environmental geochemical characterisation and assessment of mine (mineral) waste materials, such as waste rock and tailings;
- Geochemical and hydrochemical assessment reports for regulatory documentation, such as environmental impact statements (EIS’s), environmental authority (EA) amendments, and progressive rehabilitation and closure plans (PRCP’s).
- Advice and assistance with managing mine waste and processing waste materials;
- Advice and assistance understanding environmental geochemical risk at all stages of mine planning, development and closure.
Our services
Terrenus Earth Sciences has extensive experience in mineral waste characterisation and environmental geochemical assessments for mines, quarries, exploration projects, coal-fired power station ash, civil earthworks and similar industrial activities where mineral wastes are generated. Our services include:
- Data filtering and assessment, geostatistical analysis and literature review;
- Sample program design, drilling supervision and sample collection;
- Laboratory liaison, analytical method development and QA/QC assessments;
- Static and kinetic geochemical characterisation and assessment of waste rock, process solid wastes (eg. tailings) and ore;
- Mineralogical characterisation of waste rock, process solid wastes (eg. tailings) and ore;
- Providing advice about disposal and management of mineral wastes to minimise environmental impact;
- Undertaking environmental geochemical risk assessment, including source-pathway-receptor (SPR) assessment, of waste rock dumps and tailings storage facilities;
- Mineral waste storage facility rehabilitation and closure planning;
- Communication and presentation to internal and external stakeholders;
- Reporting and technical writing services;
- Independent peer review for internal or external stakeholders;
